These pictures are great! They make you think about your refuge. How were you able change the shades? Just photoshop? Check out my Wordless Wednesday here.
I like the 2nd best, I think. Also, if it were me, I might consider cropping just to the outside of each of the high-hanging lights - that would nicely remove the distraction of the lower left window and even more emphasize the length of this amazing shot!!
Thanks for the kind words! Danielle, I did the shading in my four shadow photos in iphoto (Mac), but could have done it in any editing program. The first one I just changed to bw, the second one is the original, the third one I reduced shadows, and on the last I reduced them more, and increased the exposure and intensity (I think!). I liked the idea that once you find your way under that shadow of protection, more and more light and color begin to fill your life. :-)
Wow Tracy, I'm in awe of this picture and how you changed it. The top one is my favorite too. At first I thought it was Benjamin, but realized he didn't have that much hair. I figured the ponytails belonged to Bethany. You'll have to do it again with Benjamin and Bethany. ( no offense to the little girl in the pic) :) That is such an awesome picture. ♥ Joy
Love the b&w. Did you try cropping to just below the hanging lights so that it's just all about the shadows of the girls?
Loved your explanation of what you were doing with the progression. That was one of the things I loved when I took photography classes. It's so fun to hear the thought process behind a piece.

Susan, thank you. I followed your crop suggestion, and really like the results!
